OUR SUSTAINABILITY PROGRAMME

We strive to be transparent about how we, as a company, make decisions in our daily operations and the values that guide them. Our first sustainability report covers the year 2023, and we will continue to publish the report annually. The report includes our sustainability programme, code of conduct, carbon footprint calculation, and highlights from our sustainability efforts.

The life cycle model and domestic origin

The foundation of our business, and consequently our sustainability efforts, is the life cycle model. We offer our customers services for the entire life cycle of a tool, from tool design and reconditioning to recycling. We work daily to ensure that life cycle thinking reaches every machine shop in Finland.

Our sustainability programme is divided into three areas: environmental responsibility, social responsibility, and economic responsibility. Additionally, as a member of The Finnish Work association, we are committed to the principles of responsible work outlined by the association.

Member companies of The Finnish Work association:

1. Will create jobs in Finland and will thus strengthen both financial and social well-being
2. Will take into account the responsibility of production and operation also within acquisitions and the supplier chain
3. Will support the know-how, well-being and equality of their employees (Source: The Finnish Work association)

Our company’s ownership is 100 per cent Finnish. The special metal cutting tools we manufacture and our tool reconditioning services have been awarded the Key Flag symbol as a sign of Finnish work.

SUSTAINABILITY HIGHLIGHTS

We Care for Our Staff

Our staff is our most important asset and the cornerstone of our success. We monitor the development of employee well-being and productivity annually using the Yksilötutka survey conducted by the Finnish Centre for Occupational Safety. From each year’s results, areas for development are identified, and measures are planned for the following year to improve outcomes.

Our company has established a well-being plan that has been reviewed with each employee. This plan covers themes related to work culture, health, and safety, including guidelines on how employees should act if they observe any issues in these areas.

We continuously develop our operations through LEAN training and ongoing improvement. It is important to us that every employee has the opportunity to influence the development of their work and the work community. Involving staff is one of our methods for improving job satisfaction and fostering a positive work environment.

We Are a Reliable Partner for Our Customers

We aim to be an open and reliable partner for our customers, helping them find sustainable and efficient tooling solutions.

In the spring of 2024, we conducted a customer satisfaction survey across our entire customer base in Finland. We were delighted by the large number of responses, which showed a clear trend: customer satisfaction is high, and our customers value high quality.

When we inquired about the most important single reason for choosing JR-Tools products, quality emerged as the most significant factor. Based on the responses, our customers also value domestic origin and are price-conscious. High quality is an extremely important value for us, and we ensure it is maintained at every stage of the production chain. The survey results suggest we have succeeded in this: 98 per cent of respondents consider our products to be either very high quality or high quality.

Environment: Reducing Emissions

At the end of 2023, we transitioned to using geothermal heating in our premises. This change means a reduced need for purchased energy, greater energy self-sufficiency, and approximately 20 per cent lower emissions. Additionally, the adoption of geothermal heating enables better working conditions for us. We switched to LED lighting in 2021, resulting in a 20 per cent reduction in our electricity consumption.

At the end of 2023, we replaced our diesel-powered van with a diesel hybrid. When deliveries are not transported by our service van, we choose a logistics solution with the lowest possible emissions. We also pay attention to ensuring that our deliveries are efficient; along with reconditioned tools, new tools are also transported by the service car.

We choose a domestic subcontractor whenever possible. If the subcontractor is located along our service car’s route, deliveries are made using the van during our weekly service rounds. This helps minimise freight kilometres generated by subcontracting.
